About the Campaign

The Problem: Decades ago, patients who needed their medical information called their primary care provider. The doctor was likely the same person that they’d seen for most of their life and probably had a thick folder with test results and appointment details. But today, the average person sees numerous health care providers throughout their lifetime, from primary care appointments to urgent care visits, not to mention trips to the optometrist and other specialists. The result of this segmentation is that often personal health information can be difficult to obtain. Patients do not always know where to find the information that they need, which can be particularly problematic in emergency situations where they need details of their medical history quickly, often delaying initiation of treatment which can be fatal for some conditions. Nowhere is this problem more pronounced than in Sub Saharan Africa, and in particular Kenya. In 2018, Kenya averaged a monthly total of 13.4 million hospital visits, served by 7,333 doctors and dentists, across 12000 health facilities. The Solution: To enable the patients to take charge of their health, a personalized health information management solution that is initiated and managed by users to support their medical interaction while seeking care. The solution will leverage the use of artificial intelligence to personalize the access, management and updating the medical record using low technology smartphones. Access to the solution using both web and application interface will be used to enrich user experience. Offline upload and access will be enabled to support users in low internet areas.
